Internship Experience

@ The Artground 

The Artground is Singapore's first multi-disciplinary children's arts center, managed by The Ground Co Limited, a registered arts charity. It provides positive, accessible arts experiences, sensory installations, and interactive programming for children from birth to 9 years old. 

Boutique Spring and Summer Edition 2026

Date: 14 May - 17 May 2026 

Located: F1 Pit Building 

Roles: Children's Facilitation (Resin Workshop and Packer)

Reflection: One of the highlights of my internship was participating in the Boutique Spring and Summer Edition in May, where I had the opportunity to facilitate one of the children’s craft workshops which was the Resins workshop and there was a day where I helped with Fridge Magnet Workshop. When there was no one doing the packing station, I helped to pack the children's craft as well! I faced with some challenges such as trying to get the children comfortable around me and talk to me. At first, I spoke softly, which is hard for children to hear me, and I realised that I just instructed them. One of the full-timer notices and she shared to me that children respond better when adults make an effort learning their names and addressing them properly helps them feel acknowledged and instead of instructing them, I should be more encouraging. She also mentioned that children tend to respond better when adults speak in a more enthusiastic and energetic tone. Hearing this feedback, I felt encouraged and applied it, I noticed that children were more responsive and willing to open to me.
Through this experience, I get to interact with children, and I gain skills such as communication, facilitation skills and more. Truly a fun experience and I am grateful to be able to do this, and I would like to experience this again! :)

Roles: Children's Facilitation

Reflection: I had the opportunity to help the Artist setting up the space, turning Whitebox into The Playmakers space before the programme. During the programme, I helped to facilitate the programme by helping to clean one of the places when there were no younger children playing and sometimes would interact with the younger children! 

Kopitiam (Future programme at Holland Village) 

Date: 1 August 2026 

Reflection: So grateful to have the opportunity to turn my creativity and passion of arts and craft in making a Sample Ice-Kacang for their future programme! I had to use recyclable materials such as newspaper to bake the base of an Ice and wrapped it around with white paper. I used recyclable papers to make the 'syrup' for the Ice-Kacang (Pink, Green and Yellow paper.) Then using pipe cleaners to be cut into small parts the corn for the Ice-Kacang and used green yarns to cut into small parts to act as 'cendol' in the Ice-Kacang.

VOCA - Arts Learning Journey 

Day: Wednesday 

Reflection: I had to help with the Artist setting up space, mixer, mic and light for the Arts Learning Journey. I get to apply the skills and knowledge I learnt in school, Live Sound Fundamentals and Introduction to Lighting modules in Year 2 Semester 1. Being in Campus Arts Productions Interest Group has also helped me with the Arts Learning Journey. I had to pay attention to the Artist to wait for her cue for me to play the songs. I get to enjoy watching the children clap along the songs together with the artist and even sing along with the artist during the show! 

I had the opportunity to watch a performance at the Whitebox. Such an amazing performance to be able to witness how the Artist use this space and how they transform this place into something magical for the children!
